It’s a RHD too! Interesting. Jeep sold US spec ones in RHD for rural mail carriers new, right? Could be an import though.

Yeah, Jeep has often sold RHD Jeeps of various models for postal purposes, and apparently there are companies that offer that as a standard mod.

If an LLV can be considered “ modern” ... I bet the XJ is newer.
The guy in the XJ is new to the route from what I overheard, so he was learning the route by following the LLV.

I suspect we could have bought several shorter life vehicles of the shelf for the cost of buying and maintaining one LLV though. And probably the off the shelf ones would have air conditioning.
I’ve got a strong feeling USPS is making a mistake trying to select a new custom forever vehicle instead of just buying the best value van available at any given time. Even for concerns like keeping fleet logistics simple, they could easily transfer vans around to group similar vans in different regions.

Its definately a relic of when they were designed in the ‘80s, air conditioning was still seen as a “nice to have” vs a “must have” . Even today, a lot of other commercial delivery vehicles like UPS package cars still don’t have it.
